Green Business Bureau (GBB) has partnered with Replate to offer members a food recovery service and an additional initiative for reducing their carbon footprint and achieving green business certification. Replate is a food rescue organization that leverages technology and logistics to match surplus food from businesses with communities in need. Through these efforts, companies reduce waste, mitigate climate change, and counter food insecurity.

Globally, about one-third of food intended for human consumption is wasted annually, resulting in an economic loss of $940 billion. Meanwhile, 1 in 9 people remain undernourished. Food waste also squanders water resources and rots in landfills, producing harmful methane gases that contribute to climate change. By aligning purposes, GBB and Replate aim to counter these inefficiencies and support a healthier planet and communities.

“We’re excited to partner with Green Business Bureau and bring our food recovery services to GBB members. Donating surplus food is a simple way any business can give back to its community and counter climate change, and it also saves money. We see this as an opportunity to make food recovery a normal component of a company’s operations, and believe Replate’s agile technology and seamless process will serve all industries well on their quest to become greener.”

HOW DONATING FOOD WITH REPLATE WORKS

For businesses, restaurants, universities and other organizations, Replate makes the food donation process quick and efficient. Their predictive data analysis and algorithms pair donors with the most suitable nonprofit organizations to ensure donations are well-received and redistributed, and their sophisticated platform generates the most efficient routes for timely, safe deliveries.

Many of Replate’s partners save money both in taxes and waste management, and receive monthly impact metrics providing valuable information for investors and stakeholders. Donating food also conserves water, provides meals to the community and reduces your carbon footprint.

Here’s how it works:

  1. Request a pickup – From your dashboard, select a day and time for your food to be picked up.
  2. Track your driver – One of Replate’s friendly Food Rescuers will retrieve and deliver your food donation.
  3. See your impact – Measure your social and environmental impact through your personalized dashboard.

“We’re excited to add Replate’s food recovery service to our library of green initiatives in our EcoPlanner. GBB members can now easily donate surplus meals, stock and other edible food items to reduce waste and get credit for it in their EcoAssessment and GBB certification.”
